Background: here
Personality: Emotionless & Merciless Killing Machine on the outside, but not really emotionless at all on the inside. Gloomy brat according to Levi.
Mikasa is always cool, calm and collected and it's difficult to know what's going on in her mind, when her face is very hard to read most of the time. She shows very little to no emotion most of the time -- even when she shows something else (surprise, shock, being upset, sadness for a moment), it goes away quickly, then she's back to her always serious face. She keeps most of her thoughts and emotions to herself to the point where only Armin knew what she was really feeling over losing Eren in the Battle of Trost; she's shown being completely calm and telling Armin, that this is not the time to get emotional despite just hearing that her most important person is dead. In reality she's anything but calm in that situation even though she manages to give an encouraging speech to everyone around her before heading to the battlefield to take out her sadness in fierce action and almost ends up dying too... So she can look very strong on the outside while she's not always nearly that strong on the inside. She's just not letting it show on the outside in front of others back then and it's something she still isn't good at while she keeps bottling stuff up.
She is most often seen talking to Eren and/or Armin, who are the most important people of her life and the ones, who she considers as her family. Mostly in the company of others she keeps her distance and lets others be more social while she keeps listening to them, though she will talk when she has something to say or if they ask something from her. It's not like she minds talking, there are times when she even talks a lot for a girl like her -- especially in the company of those two, who she's known the longest since it's obviously easier for her to open up to them than to anyone else. Mikasa has just grown to be very withdrawn and quiet nowadays. She actually used to be very outgoing back when she was a child, but the murder of her parents, her kidnapping and killing one of her kidnappers after seeing two of them being killed by a boy of the same age as her made quite a change in her positive personality. She learned that the world is mercilessly cruel and everything can change in one moment, so she shouldn't let her feelings get in the way of anything. She calls that day as the day when she died and was then being brought back to life by Eren, calling it a debt she won't forget.
She's a responsible friend and a big sister like person, she's been taking care of Eren and Armin ever since they become close like a family. Sometime in their earlier years she got reminders from Eren that she isn't her mom or big sister, who can tell him what to do. She even states in canon that she "doesn't remember raising Armin that way." when Armin theorizes about crazy plans against the government. Mikasa is also very trustworthy and loyal; her friends can trust her with their life against humans or titans as she's proven by attacking both to save their lives. She trusts them too but she rather does things herself and she's so fast at reacting that others don't really have time to do anything before her -- unless they're closer, like in the moment when she might have been too late to save Jean from being shot, but Armin acts before her. It surprises her and it's Armin's first time ever killing another human. Mikasa wouldn't want them to go through of doing that stuff if it can be avoided by her doing it because she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty and it wouldn't be her first time, she's cold-blooded fast attacker whenever she has to kill someone. But as they say in canon, they're not the good people anymore. The only time when she leaves anyone on her side in trouble is when she's so saddened by Eren's so called death. At that moment she doesn't even remember her responsibility for others in the battle for a moment, when she is about to give up on everything and die. She kicks herself about it later, that's not the way how she wants to act and that's not the way how she makes sure people survive.
Eren means everything to her. She shows a lot more emotions when she's with him and/or gets emotional when it's about him. She cries her eyes out of relief in front of everyone when she finds out that he is not dead and she smiles widely at him, thanking him for everything when they think they're about to die in the battlefield to have at least one chance to tell him all that. She gets embarrassed when people think they're a couple, immediately blushing a lot and looking away from whoever is saying it that time. She's not someone who often shows physical affection, but at least with Eren and Armin she's not completely unfamiliar with it nor does it seem to make her uncomfortable with them. Though with Eren alone it gets complicated whenever she feels like hugging him or doing something else cute; she has reached out towards him countless times and then pulled her fidgeting hand back, being too timid to actually do anything. Eren never even notices any of them, he may have noticed her face being about to be too close to his once when Mikasa almost ended up kissing him after her thank yous. It looked like she was finally going to be brave enough to go for something... And then Eren decided that fuck it, they're not dying here and got up saying cute words to her before he saved the day instead of that happening. She will always remember those words just like she remembers everything else too and they are very close to her heart. At least she got a piggyback ride away from that battlefield when she was in no condition to walk at all... But they never got back into what almost happened there, quite the opposite actually as Eren is later shown to be as clueless about love things as someone, who never notices any obvious signs.
Comforting others is rare for her, sure, but then she's also the only one who goes to talk to crying and nauseous Armin after he has just killed a human. And instead of just talking she also rubs his back to try to make him feel at least a little better than she can with just words. She's still very awkward with gestures like that but she's trying to get better with baby steps! Whenever she can't do anything for Eren at her current situation, she gets upset and either angry or sad depending on the situation; she's near crying when she wakes up to hearing that Eren was kidnapped by titan shifters and later infurious at the shifters for taking him. The boy is her biggest weakness and strength, Mikasa has devoted her life to loyally protecting him and her extremely fierce devotion to Eren is unquestionable! She is ready to go wherever he goes (she wouldn't have even joined the military or Survey Corps if it wasn't for following Eren there) and she feels like she owes him for saving her life when they first met. As she has told him, she is going to keep this up until the day she dies. Eren has been her reason to become strong along with everything that has happened to them, not having been able to lift the house to save Carla was obviously a huge kicker towards it and then they really went to the military and joined the most dangerous branch of it. It's been her driving force to become the worth a hundred soldiers that she is after seeing the adults of her families die one by one and not knowing where one of them went until it got revealed later.
Losing Eren one way or another is her worst fear. Mikasa does anything for him, everything she does is for him and someone really needs to hold her back if she can't go save him from any trouble like she's done all the way from childhood... Or else she will fearlessly jump into any situation to save him once again. When her parents are killed and she's saved by Eren, Mikasa has nowhere to go but the Jaegers took in her in an instant. She gets a red scarf from Eren, when she says she's cold and Mikasa still keeps the scarf that she got from Eren with her every day, though it's not part of her clothing whenever the weather is too hot to wear it. She's shown touching it and holding it close whenever she feels weak because it gives her strength and she associates life without Eren as cold and life with Eren as warm because of that scarf moment. She loves and cares a lot about her family even when she's not always the best at showing it. Since Eren and Armin are the only ones, who are left from anything as dear and important as family to her, that just means she holds on to those two more fiercely than ever now when she's strong enough to defend them. She is slow at warming up to people, but she cares deeply about the classmates, who are on their side of the war still too. They've become almost as close as Eren and Armin to her but it has taken a lot of time and them slowly earning her trust by fighting on their side. But if Mikasa could spend all of her time with just one person, she'd spend it with Eren. She doesn't even leave Eren alone whenever he's told to stay in bed, she just stays there with him and makes sure everything is okay for him all the time. He is her home to return to, she feels like she can do anything when Eren is around or when she's doing things for him. Upon waking up to Eren not being where she is after his kidnapping, she even grabs Armin from the shirt and starts asking where Eren is. Needless to say Armin looks shocked by it as it's a rare reaction for her since Mikasa is usually calm and caring to the blonde boy too, but at least he also knows how to calm her down from it -- well, as much as that's possible anyway, since she's not exactly calm on the inside whenever Eren is in some trouble. She can't always rush to save him either no matter how much she wants to do that. He keeps going into places where she can't always follow and that scares her more than many things because she honestly thinks he'll die without her around. She knows that eventually the time to lose him and Armin and everyone else will come because no one's ever around forever and it's a very recent, very emotional reminder back home. At least she's trying to make their time together last for as long as it can in a world like their home world.
She gets extremely jealous of Eren easily, much too easily even. Sometimes all it takes is Eren is spending time with someone else than her, Eren hugging someone else than her (it's not like she has ever received an on screen hug like Historia gets from him) and sometimes it's a jealous rage of someone else being too close to Eren somewhere -- like that one time, when Annie is pinning him to the ground and threatening him with a knife in their self-defense classes and Mikasa literally throws Reiner at them through the air to stop the situation. Ironic personality trait to have since all Eren seems to want is FREEDOM.
Levi is someone, who she has always considered as weird and her whole relationship with him is kind of weird anyway, but at least she trusts him now. Better yet, she even talks her friends to trust him too, saying if they want to stay alive then trusting Levi's decisions is the right choice in her opinion. She still questions him, sometimes, when Levi puts priorities to other things than where she'd put them (because to Mikasa number one priority is always Eren, so when Levi tells them that they'll save Eren and Historia later... well, there's no way she can just agree to it just like that!) and talks back to him whenever she doesn't agree with him. Mostly she does that to defend her friends while Levi is complaining about/to them and either Mikasa doesn't want to hear it, or she doesn't get what he means without someone like Hange explaining / translating it. Admittedly they don't start well with Mikasa seeing Levi kicking the shit out of Eren, she starts holding a grudge on it and swears she'll get back to the midget about it one day. That was a long time ago and if she still has the grudge against him for that, she can do teamwork with Levi nowadays without any trouble. She even shows concern about his leg, that got injured when Levi saved her life. She's also shown to be the first person to agree to things like Levi ordering them to kill humans if they have to. But she also ignores some of his orders and does whatever she wants to do so often, that Levi even comments about how the gloomy brat is doing something on her own again. And even though she defends some actions of her family to him, she's not always there to defend all of them against him. When Levi demands Historia to become to queen or defeat him by holding the girl up in the air, Mikasa kind of just -- stands there, not surprised but rather looking at it like "Oh, so this is how far we're ready to go." while everyone else is shocked...
Later in an unfortunate situation for everyone, where two people are nearly dead and Levi tries to save Erwin instead of saving Armin by making one of them a shifter, Mikasa jumps to attack him after he punches Eren. She nearly kills Levi to solve the problem even though by then she knows, that he's most likely her only living relative. That really doesn't matter whenever it's about keeping her most important people alive. Maybe she'd go through with it if she absolutely had to do it to save Armin but in that situation she only holds a blade near Levi's throat. That's her way to give him one last chance to change his mind on which one they're going to save while Eren keeps yelling near them about why they should save Armin. Would she really go as far as to kill Levi is left unsolved, she clearly gives him a choice in that situation and she is known to do anything for Eren and Armin... So that's a really close call situation. Not that Levi reacts to her being so near to kill him at all - whether that's a sign of knowing that Mikasa wouldn't do it or Levi not caring if he dies there is unclear. He's instantly trying to stop Mikasa from attacking/killing an annoying fellow soldier in her rage though, so it's not like it's any unclear to him that Mikasa wouldn't go that far! Not that Levi has time to do anything than yell "No!" and even that seems to go to deaf-like ears if he even could do anything else than that. Luckily Hange gets there in time to calm her down with hugs and words, that Mikasa really doesn't want to hear but seriously needs to hear there. That really works! She's not known to show emotional or physical weaknesses in front of people but she literally collapses into crying her eyes out and doesn't care how many see it this time either. She feels like she's losing that battle, thinks she's going to lose someone of her family again... She does have extremely emotional reactions sometimes though they happen in pretty extreme situations, it's been a long and tiring day and she's the one who told the others to trust Levi. That whole situation there is far from what she thought he'd do if it comes to that and it seems like a huge blow to how much the teens can trust him. ...But then somehow Levi changes his mind after the teens are forcefully taken away from the situation to another roof, where they can't see what happens with the Titan serum. Unsurprising to no one but they all get emotional for getting to hug a breathing, regenerated and healing Armin afterwards.
Traitors like classmates turning out to be the Titan shifters responsible for mass murders of humanity and also all humans, who become her enemies, get to see her murderous side. Mikasa is merciless, furiously attacking anyone to get them out of her way and to get Eren back from whoever has kidnapped him this time -- really, Eren should stop getting kidnapped! But she doesn't tend to think too far in some of those situations as being a danger to Eren or his other friends is the easiest way to make her enraged and vengeful, easily getting her blinded by rage. Though she might need someone to save her then because she might make mistakes while she's in that state of mind as seen when Levi needs to save her from the Female Titan. She's impulsive, she doesn't always think things through when her mind focuses on something else and ignores everything else -- an opening somewhere doesn't always mean that the enemy can't hit from another direction, but she might go to that opening anyway thinking she can defeat whatever there is against her.
Mikasa is often called a genius for her skills or a monster if you ask those, who she attacks. She's an extremely skilled fighter and she picks up on signs of danger faster than anyone can say "Psychic" which gives her advantage on those situations but also means she needs to save others, who don't have the same ability. She does not hesitate to take action and often takes it on her own without Levi's permission. She really has no self control, it makes her dangerous in situations where quick action to save others is needed. She shows no more mercy or compassion to those, who become her enemies. When she almost kills Reiner and Bertolt after they out themselves as Titan shifters, she hesitates for one little moment on seeing their faces of her slashing on their arms and faces in instant. This almost causes her to lose Eren once again, so she decides to never hesitate again and blames herself for the situation that follows because she could have killed them before they transformed. She's killed a human to save Eren once when they were little kids, but she still hesitates in that moment when it's people she's known for years in question just because they earn a few sympathy points from her with their shocked faces in that situation. She even tries to talk to them into giving Eren back a bit later when Bert first shakes her out of her murderous state of mind with yelling about how they don't want to kill anyone and cared about their class. Though when they disagree, the girl is ready to fight against them again.
She is ready to kill or at least hurt anyone, who comes into her way unless they back down as proven when she says this to Krista, who jumps in to protect Ymir's Titan form from Mikasa. Earlier she threatens Dimo Reeves in the Battle Of Trost (an encounter, that later becomes useful to them, when she still recognizes him) when he's stopping people from moving to the inner walls by trying to get his cart through the gate first but only shown killing and/or hurting people later when they come after the squad to kill them. She's ready to do what Levi tells them to; "No hesitation on killing people if they're about to kill you, since a human killing a human is just one human and all humanity doesn't have to take part in it" (unlike the whole humanity has to take part in fight against Titans by mostly being eaten by them)! If it saves lives, she'll do it because she has to when she wants her friends to stay alive. Even when her mind has been completely ready to give up, her body has still moved because at least one part of her realizes that she wants to survive and giving up is not an option. Mikasa states very early, that she doesn't care what or who she's fighting against if it's to protect her family. She fights because Eren has told her to fight as it's the only way to survive in their home world. She's not much a teamworker, most people are frankly far below her level but she agrees to some teaming up with people sometimes; attacking with Levi even though she also shows great dislike of him is the best example and she's even done it more than once. The only time when she actually brags about her skills is after Eren's death in Trost, when she's talking her friends into taking action and claims to be really really strong, much stronger than them and that she can take all the Titans there down by herself. Well, she's not really acting like herself at all in that situation as normally she's not arrogant about it at all. For someone as skilled as her, she's really humble and instead of words, she just shows what she can do when situations call it.
She still has a lot to learn to get to Levi's level and beyond it, but at least she has improved and she learns from her mistakes. Her initiative is both a great and a bad thing; it can save people from dying but it can also get her into dangerous situations. Leave it to a reckless idiot like Mikasa (and Eren too) to put herself into danger by going so near even intelligent Titans, that she's literally been on their face to make Eren hear what she had to say (and to tell female Titan to fall from the wall), though that situation with Eren's Titan form is where the scar on her right cheek is from. She went there before she noticed, that it is completely out of control. But surely Eren never tried to kill her with that hit, he was obviously just trying to hit a fly - it's what she tries to tell people, who question instead of telling the truth because it could get them in trouble back then. She could never hurt Eren, but all the other Titan shifters whether they are in their Titan forms or human forms? She'll be the first one to attack them before anyone can stop her or before she even has time to think about a plan since they always seem to have something to protect themselves from the blades. Mikasa is dangerous, really unsafe to anyone dangerous around her and she won't even try to hide it whenever they give her a reason for it (literally telling Annie's Titan form, that she will Kill her, rip her apart / in pieces no matter where she has to follow her...) . She shows a lot of fierceness in fights and is even heard yelling a lot in them even though she's usually so quiet. Sometimes it's words, often it's just ... yelling / screaming (for pride as manga calls it) while she moves to kill / hit a Titan with her blades.
Abilities: She's an extremely talented fighter and very strong, easily doing stuff like lifting Eren without any effort and carrying him on one shoulder, throwing boys bigger than herself already at young age and seen carrying heavy stuff alone without trouble. She trains A LOT. She was ranked first from their class in everything, including combat skills. If there's something to do, Mikasa does it as she proves by being so amazing at everything, that people in her military training called her a genius. Horseback riding is their way to survive outside the walls, she's amazing at that too and easily dodghes a huge amount of Titans or their hands / limbs while she makes her horse run through a very small open area between them.
Training to use the Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear / 3DMG / vertical maneuvering equipment / gear takes years from some people, she just walked there and did it like it's the same as breathing and she became a prodigy at that too. It's a skill, that she now uses to take down Titans as fast as she can; one is killed, she moves on to the next and even though intelligent ones aka the ones with a human in control of it are still impossible for her to defeat alone, she can at least do a lot of damage to them and survive unlike dozens of others did against Female Titan. Sure, she would have died without Levi's help from that one hit, but otherwise she did a lot more damage to it than others, who were a lot older than her! Except Levi, because he did a lot more... Though she copied some of his spinning into her own style after that, hah. Their military also included situations, where they would suddenly cut their wires and see how they survive without them. Since Mikasa was number one in everything there and went above all expectations with rainbow colors, that's most likely as natural to her as normal way of using their gears.
She's worth a hundred soldiers with all her skills, not just for her fast titan killing style. And she refuses to stay in bed for any longer than a week even if her ribs have been injured, but she is actually fine after the week.
Mikasa remembers people and things that she reads, sees or hears, it's like she has some kind of a perfect recall or eidetic memory. She also has some resistance to memory manipulation in canon and apparently she also woke up a power back when she was very tiny and had to save Eren from being killed - something just went through her body telling her exactly what to do on how to kill that man, who was trying to kill Eren. Much later when she tells about it to Levi, he calls that as a moment of knowing exactly what she needed to do saying he's experienced it too.
Alignment: Elios. Her love, care and devotion to Eren and everyone else she considers friends and family definites her actions and decisions and makes her show a lot more than her usual emotionless side lets out. In short, all that love for especially Eren even definites her as a person. Also her official Love For Family rating is 10/10 ...but then it can also turn into fierce hate as soon as someone either turns out to be a traitor or some other, who is on the opposite side of this war.
Other:
+ Her birthday is February 10th
+ She's wearing her red scarf and Scout uniform, cloak will appear with her too.
+ She also has her gear with full set of blades but the cylinders are out of gas. And she has Thunder Spear holders in her arms/jacket but there are no spears in them.
+ One of her arms got hurt in the fight back home but it's not deep or serious.
+ On the last day when her parents were alive, her mother marked/tattoeed/made/carved/idek-what-system-she-used a mark on Mikasa's wrist because it's the symbol of their Asian clan. It looks like this but she's not very likely to show it whenever clothes cover it.
+ She has a scar below her right eye because Eren lost control of his Titan form once and tried to kill her.
General Sample: Test Drive toplevel
Emotion Sample:
While her arrival is one of her most emotional moments ever with effects like warm, gentle rain falling all around her for overflowing relief and joy... All of it goes away as soon as the realization of being taken away from her most important people starts to sink in.
Ohh.
Mikasa doesn't scream, there's no panic or trying to force anyone to give them back to her. Part of that is because she's beyond tired -- it's been an extremely long and emotional day. Mostly it's a shock but unlike most people, Ackermans react by emotionally shutting down completely. It's like a self-defense system for worst situations and this absolutely counts as one of those even though no reaction is her normal reaction too. At least she usually feels even something behind her walls but now it feels like there's nothing. Not emotionally nor in any other way either.
So, that's it for her time with them? No one's ever going to be there forever and no one really knows when the time to let go comes, when anything can happen suddenly out of nowhere... This happening right after their possibly final fight against some Titan shifters makes sense, is this world trying to say that her job back home is done? It's true though, isn't it? She promised she'd be there to help Eren defeat the Titans, today seems to be the day when it ends. Of course she is taken away from them right after all of that insane fighting and right before they'd most likely get a lot of peaceful days or months or years... That's just her typical bad luck. The breakdown would come later, she knows it, but this is not the time to get emotional when she's in the middle of a busy city.
If anyone's expecting some kind of an emotional reaction from her or big effect to all of this from the world, well, they may be disappointed when there's no reaction at all... Aside of her eyes going from full of emotions to completely emotionless, there doesn't seem to be anything. Not unless someone is really good at reading signs of apathy, that is! Because now her emotions are making small, pinhead-sized holes and some loss of color appear around her. Those are easy to miss or mistake as someone playing with paint because that's what they look like. And while Mikasa notices things around her changing easily, everything here is new to her. She likely doesn't even know them to be her doing and even if she knows that? She doesn't care!
Hopefully a sudden small hole or colorless spot on anything isn't ruining anyone's day nearby. Or if it is, there's one apathetic looking guilty person standing there and doing nothing for now. Where does she even begin?
Questions: The gas cylinders of her gear are empty, so how can she refill them here? Air cores and/or something else? (If I have ever asked an official answer to that, I can't find it, sorry!)
