Eren can't handle losing anyone at all. He's thought about Jean or Mikasa disappearing; how could he not? He rejects that thought, that idea, even as today he seeks to affirm that they're still here. He refuses to lose Mikasa out of everyone. He knows the ending that this Mikasa never has to live and he would commit yet more atrocities if it meant she'd never have to. Disappearing from here…if that means going home, he'll keep anyone from it that he can, at any cost.
Eren hasn't changed as much as he might like to think.
"…Hey," he says, a little awkward in his relief. He doesn't smile back, as usual, but his expression lightens just a little. She moves to hug him and for once he's already moving to do the same, arms tight around her like the first time they'd met here, seemingly a hundred years ago to him after all that's happened since.
"I'm happy to see you," he says, which is a lot for him and his refusal to acknowledge emotions out loud anymore.
